Single-phase motors are widely used in household and commercial appliances because they can operate on a single-phase power supply. Once the motor has started and reached a certain speed, the starting winding current must be reduced or interrupted by a mechanical voltage relay (motor-starting potential relay).
However, mechanical relays are susceptible to vibration and have the disadvantage of rapidly degrading operating characteristics, such as electrical arcing during operation. This, along with winding loss due to overload, is a major cause of motor repair and replacement.

The ECS224P uses a semiconductor device, TRIAC, in order to suppress electrical arcs and features an enhanced starting compatibility with general-purpose motors through a built-in microprocessor. It also boasts high durability against wear, vibration, and humidity.
Notably, the company’s starting switch utilizes a dynamic principle (patent no. EP2280475B1) that tracks the starting torque relative to the motor speed, detects the maximum torque, and then disconnects the starting winding. Thus, the starting switch ensures compatibility with a wide range of motor designs and high starting efficiency.
