Nature-made art, Jusangjeolli Cliff and Cheonjeyeonpokpo Falls
Jeju Jungmun Resort is blessed with not only beautiful natural scenery but also with numerous entertainment and convenience facilities catering to both domestic and international tourists. Jusangjeolli Cliff, near the International Convention Center Jeju, delivers a sight to behold with its gigantic rock pillars running along the costal line. Cheonjeyeonpokpo Falls, a three-tiered waterfall, is another attraction not to be missed in Seogwipo. While the first section of the waterfall is only active after rain, the second and third sections are active all year round.

Rekindle childhood memories at the Teddy Bear Museum
Another favorite tourist attraction at Jungmun Resort is the Teddy Bear Museum. The museum boasts quite an impressive collection of teddy bears from all over the world. Exhibition halls are designed with different themes, such as 20th century history exhibition and fable parodies, all portrayed by teddy bears. The Teddy Bear Museum is a popular museum loved by visitors of all ages, recommended as an excellent place to visit with friends, families, or even on a date. The museum also has a souvenir shop, cafeteria, and a park that offers a splendid view.

Downtown Jeju History & Culture Course

Discover the history and culture of Jeju Island
Yongduam Rock, a top tourist attraction in downtown Jeju, is one of the many natural wonders of Jeju Island. Formed by underwater lava millions of years ago, eons of weathering from the rain and wind have formed it into the likeness of a dragon’s head.
After visiting Yongduam Rock, head down to the Jeju Folklore & Natural History Museum to learn about the development of the island people and culture over time. Not only does Jeju Island have its own dialect, it also has a distinct culture that separates it from the rest of mainland Korea, all of which you can see and enjoy from a quick tour of the museum. Right next to the museum is Samseonghyeol Shrine, a religious site that is also the birthplace of Jeju’s ancient mythology. The old trees and traces of the past create a devotional atmosphere.

Korea’s Exports Last Year Totaled $683.8 Billion, the Highest Ever

https://korean-electronics.com//inquiry

Last year’s Korean exports broke an all-time record. Semiconductor exports recorded the highest ever, leading overall exports. Last December’s exports also increased by 6.6%, continuing the 15th consecutive month of positive growth.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) recently released that the nation’s exports in 2024 were tallied at $683.8 billion, up 8.2% from the previous year.
Imports decreased by 1.6% from the previous year to $642.67 billion. The trade balance thus recorded a surplus of $51.8 billion.
Annual exports surpassed the previous record of $683.6 billion achieved in 2022. Daily average exports ($2.53 billion) also surpassed the previous record of $2.51 billion.

MOTIE analyzed that the improved export performance is attributable to the fact that IT items such as semiconductors and consumer goods showed favorable trends evenly in a situation where international oil prices stabilized downward.
Exports of a total of eight out of the 15 major export items increased. Semiconductor exports increased 43.9% year-on-year to $141.9 billion, breaking the previous record of $129.2 billion in 2022.
It is evaluated that the semiconductor exports expanded centered on high value-added items such as DDR5 and high-bandwidth memory (HBM), despite the decline in general memory prices in the fourth quarter of last year, and showed an upward trend toward the end of the year.
Shipbuilding showed an increase of 17.6%, petrochemicals 5.0%, and biohealth 13.1%.
Automobiles recorded $70.8 billion in export sales, a 0.1% decrease year-on-year due to some production disruptions caused by strikes in major automakers and parts companies in the second half of the year, but exceeded $70 billion for the second consecutive year.
Among the nine major export markets, exports to seven regions, including the USA, China, and ASEAN, increased. Exports to the USA increased by 10.5% to $127.8 billion, while exports to China increased by 6.6% to $133 billion. In particular, exports to the USA broke the record for the seventh consecutive year.
December’s exports increased by 6.6% year-on-year to $61.38 billion, while imports during the same period increased by 3.3% to $54.89 billion.

Paving the Way to the Future of Buyeoas a Strong Economy County

https://korean-electronics.com//inquiry

By responding to regional crises through investment attraction, overseas agriculture expansion, local currency, and global branding, Mayor Park Jung-hyun is promoting engines for Buyeo’s future growth

Park Jung-hyun, Mayor of Buyeo County, is a politician who succeeded in winning re-election in Buyeo, and is a representative figure of Chungcheongnam-do Province who enjoys wide support beyond political parties and factions. Based on his experience as an entrepreneur during his younger days, he is helping to create practical results in the economic and welfare sectors – thanks to his customer-centered thinking and outstanding business execution capability.
His notable achievements include the global marketing of Goodtrae agricultural products, expansion of agriculture to overseas, fostering the largest smart farm in Korea, attracting foreign investment companies, expanding Goodtrae pay incentives, and the Social Impact and Compensation Business (SIB). We met with Mayor Park in order to listen to his views on recent hot issues and future plans.

Mayor Park Jung-hyun

What is your vision for the future of Buyeo County?
Rural local governments across Korea are facing the threat of extinction due to population decline and aging. Given this situation, the most important value is
sustainability. The future development strategy of Buyeo County is to secure economic growth momentum to build a ‘sustainable rural community.’ It is thus intended to create a ‘Buyeo where people want to live.’

What are Buyeo County’s goals and strategies for attracting corporate investments?
Buyeo County was selected as an Opportunity Development Zone (ODZ) by Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) in 2024. Last year, it attracted Hangke, a Chinese partner of LG Energy Solution, to Buyeo County, gaining an investment of KRW 65 billion. In order to foster the County, with its ancient capital of Baekje, as a historical and cultural city, the County is visualizing its plan to build a 5-star hotel, and an investment of KRW 150 billion is expected to be made soon.
We are converting undesirable facilities into preferred facilities. For example, our bio-gasification facility was selected for a public contest of 47.1 billion won. We aim to achieve sustainable development through eco-friendly energy production and resource recycling. We plan to actively attract bio companies in connection with the selected ODZ.

Buyeo is known to be an advanced county in agriculture. Could we hear more about any strategies for strengthening agricultural competitiveness?
Buyeo County is generating annual sales of KRW 900 billion in the field of horticultural facilities such as smart farms. Buyeo County has global competitiveness in smart farm operations. In addition, the County has been planning and promoting the plant leather industry, which replaces animal leather and artificial leather, for more than 10 years. Buyeo County is the largest mushroom producing region in Korea, and is utilizing mushroom mycelia as plant leather materials. Currently, a prototype has been developed, and the vegan leather development and demonstration cluster construction project has won a government contest, securing KRW 13 billion in project expenses until 2027.
As for overseas agriculture, Buyeo County is carrying out a K-Goodtrae rice cultivation project in Namangan Province, Uzbekistan, and it is expected to produce seven tons of rice per hectare. The crops produced in this way will be exported to neighboring countries. Buyeo County’s agriculture will contribute to the globalization of K-agriculture, and also contribute to the nation’s food security.

What is the globalization strategy of the agricultural specialty brand Goodtrae?
Goodtrae is the No. 1 local agricultural brand in Korea. We will increase Goodtrae’s international recognition through global marketing. We are pursuing various projects such as securing sales channels for Goodtrae agricultural products through collaboration with Lotte Wellfood.

What is your future economic strategy for balanced regional development?
Goodtrae Pay is recognized for having protected local businesses, leading to stable growth of the regional economy. Goodtrae Pay in fact created KRW 52.7 billion of circulated added value in Buyeo County.
In the administrative sector, Buyeo County secured the largest amount of KRW 148.1 billion in investments ever among Chungcheongnam-do’s balanced development projects.
What we sensed through our interview with the Mayor Park Jung-hyun was that he is administrating the county as if he were a leader of a strong but small nation, despite the fact that he is a Mayor in a lower-level local government. The Mayor is playing a leading role in responding to the crisis of local extinction through overseas agricultural development, attracting foreign investment, and global city marketing targeting the global market. Thus, Mayor Park Jung-hyun is seen to be building a foundation for a bigger global small, but strong, county.
