Instant Ramen Cooker

https://korean-electronics.com//inquiry

Ramen is the most popular menu choice in Hangang Park, along with chicken, during the summer. People’s interest has increased as scenes of boiling ramen in machines at convenience stores have appeared several times on entertainment programs.
With the growing popularity of boiling packaged ramen, a special container called an ‘instant cooker,’ or ‘ramen cooker,’ is being used.
There are more than three Korean companies that manufacture instant cookers (ramen cookers) that can be seen in Hangang Park and convenience stores.
IDEA’s ‘LAZO’ is a first-generation instant ramen cooker, and is maintaining No. 1 position in the domestic market.

Designed for anyone to easily boil and eat
LAZO is an instant cooker. Customers can boil ramen by putting it in an exclusive paper container and placing it in the machine. All you have to do is just press the button. The average cooking time is about four minutes. “Warm water maintained at around 80°C comes out of the cooker and starts cooking. The aluminum coating inside the paper reacts to induction and quickly boils the water,” explained the CEO of the company Lee Sang-cheol about the process of boiling ramen in LAZO. LAZO is a product combining the functions of a water purifier and an induction.
IDEA’s LAZO is highly preferred in places with limited space, such as convenience stores. At first glance, it is mistaken for a regular water purifier, and the design was carefully considered. More than 2,000 units of LAZO are installed in convenience stores, PC rooms, etc., nationwide, including 7-Eleven. CEO Lee explains, “Customers can cook even in goshiwons – accommodations for students studying for exams ― or commercial facilities where it is difficult to install a gas range by using LAZO,” adding “the number of installed units is expected to soon exceed 3,000.”
IDEA has focused on safety and after-sales management since the early days of product distribution. It has shortened the after-sales service (AS) time as much as possible for convenience store owners who operate 24 hours per day. It has made sure that the time from receiving a breakdown to repairing it does not exceed one day. It has operated a call center since the early days of the business and has established 27 service centers nationwide.

Evolving into a smart cooking appliance that can communicate
LAZO has also entered overseas markets where ramen consumption is high. More than 1,000 units of LAZO were exported to the United States, Mexico, Taiwan, Indonesia, and the Philippines, respectively. Currently, it is entering the Japanese and European markets. “East Asia has something in common in that it has developed cuisine using noodles, and demand is occurring in areas where convenience stores are developed,” remarked CEO Lee.
According to the World Instant Noodles Association (WINA), Koreans consume 73.7 units per person per year (as of 2017), ranking first in the world, followed by Vietnam (53.5 units), and Nepal (51.1 units).
“The growing market for home meal replacements (HMRs), including ramen, is also an opportunity. We plan to expand our product line that is easy to cook by collaborating with various food companies. We will create a cooking platform that can be used as easily as a microwave oven,” remarked CEO Lee about the company’s future plans.

As unique and trendy shops began opening alongside the old printing factory, lighting, and tool stores, this hot place received the name “hipjiro,” a combination of the words hip and Euljiro. Here is a charming tour course perfect for a day trip to Euljiro.

10:00 AM Euljiro Alley Tour
The Euljiro tour can start from any station connecting to Cheonggyecheon Stream on the Seoul Subway Line: Eujiro 3(Sam)-ga Station, Euljiro 4(sa)-ga Station, and Jongno 3(sam)-ga Station. Wherever the trip begins, visitors can reach all the major spots of Euljiro by following the countless alleys. The Euljiro area has an ironwork alley, lighting alley, and nogari (dried pollack) alley, making for a great sightseeing trip. Another method is by entering any alley and shop to each liking.

12:00 PM Bowl of Pyeongyang Naengmyeon
The area of Euljiro is also famous for its countless Pyeongyang naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) restaurants. The cold and unique flavor of the soup is a special trait of Pyeongyang naengmyeon. The noodles go especially well with meat. Each store has a variety of selections from bulgogi to suyuk (boiled beef slices), pyeonyuk (boiled pork slices), and much more.

14:00 PM Cup of Coffee in a Nostalgic Cafe
Fragrant coffee and sweet dessert are a must during travels. The Euljiro area has common coffee shops as well as unique cafés with a different vibe. In particular, Coffee Hanyakbang is popular among not only locals, but also tourists. This café specializes in pour over coffee. Just like its name Hanyakbang, which refers to an old-fashioned pharmacy dealing with medicinal herbs, the interior of the café is decorated with old cabinets inlaid with mother-of-pearl, vintage record players, and antiques giving it a unique retro look.
Across the street from Coffee Hanyakbang is a bakery shop that specializes in cake and chocolates. Hyemindang used to be the location of a medical facility called Hyeminseo during the Joseon period. The antique interior design from that period is the biggest characteristic of this shop.

In particular, Cheonggye Arcade and Daerim Arcade have cafés, bookstores, and restaurants that are popular on social media. At Geumjiokyeop, visitors can find posters, books, and goods from old popular films. Horangyi is a recommended coffee shop with old school vibes.

18:00 PM Wrap up the Day at a Wine Bar
To wrap up the Euljiro tour, how about spending some time at a charming wine bar or pub. The wine bars in Euljiro have retro entrances but the interior design is completely different. Each bar has its own characteristic. There is one wine bar named Le temple that serves delicious dishes made with Jamόn, cheese, and fruits. Some have LP bars playing the classics, like at Pky and The Edge, and some, such as eulijiok and Le temple, have live DJ performances.
Euljiro Nogari Street is perfect for beer lovers who want to enjoy beer and nogari at an affordable price. People sit on tables along the alley and enjoy the summer night.

October Exports Hit Highest Level Ever

https://korean-electronics.com//inquiry

Semiconductors and automobiles boost Korea’s export drive

Last month, Korea’s exports continued to show positive growth for 13 consecutive months. Exports achieved the highest performance on a monthly basis, and set a ‘highest ever’ record for three consecutive months since August. Last month’s export performance was led by semiconductors and automobiles. Both items recorded the highest performance ever in the same month, leading October’s exports.

Exports to Korea’s two major export markets also showed signs of greater activity. Exports to China increased 10.9% year-on-year to US$12.2 billion, achieving the highest performance in 25 months, while exports to the USA also showed the highest monthly performance of $10.4 billion (+3.4%). In particular, exports to China showed the highest performance of the year in just one month.

According to the ‘October Export and Import Trends’ recently announced by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), exports last month increased by 4.6% year-on-year to $57.52 billion, surpassing the October 2021 performance ($55.7 billion), and recording the largest export amount in October ever.
Among the 15 major export items, exports of 10 items increased, with the largest export item of semiconductors rising for 12 consecutive months.

Exports of semiconductors, a ‘good-selling item,’ recorded the highest performance in October ever at $12.5 billion (+40.3%), breaking the record for the highest performance in October in six years, compared with $11.6 billion in October 2018. MOTIE analyzed that solid demand for semiconductors will continue, centered on high-value memory, due to new investments in AI servers and increased demand for replacement of general servers.

Computer exports also continued to show a good level of demand compared to the previous year, centered on enterprise SSDs. Computers continued to increase for 10 consecutive months, with a double-digit increase (+54.1%) to $1 billion. Automobile exports, the second-largest export item, recorded $6.2 billion, up +5.5% year-on-year.

Automobiles also achieved their highest performance in October, and renewed their monthly highest export performance for the second month in a row.

Automobiles are continuing the ‘new car effect,’ while hybrid car exports are also showing a favorable trend. It is evaluated that the increase was also due to the expansion of production through weekend overtime and overtime work at GM Korea. Automobile parts also recorded $1.9 billion, up 5.9%, and turning positive for the first time in three months, thanks to the favorable export trend.

Steel exports recorded $2.9 billion, up +8.8%, breaking the negative trend of the past eight months and turning positive. Petrochemical exports showed a recovery, recording positive figures for the first time in two months, while textile and home appliance exports recorded positive figures for the first time in three months. Petrochemical exports increased by 10.2% to $4 billion, while textiles and home appliances increased by 2.5% and 5%, respectively.

Petroleum product exports recorded $3.4 billion, down -34.9% year-on-year, due to factors such as a decline in product prices linked to oil prices.

Among the nine major export markets, exports to five countries, including China and the United States, increased. In particular, exports to China recorded $12.2 billion (+10.9%), the highest in 25 months since September 2022, as semiconductor and petrochemical exports increased significantly.

Exports to the United States also recorded $10.4 billion (+3.4%), the highest performance in October ever.
Exports to China have been over $10 billion for eight consecutive months, breaking the record for the highest month of the year in just one month, while exports to the United States have been breaking monthly records for 15 consecutive months.
