Potting Compound for Switching Mode Power Supply


[INQ. NO. 2210E05] Ilsin Cloud’s potting compound is a new material that has obtained patents in six countries including Korea as a molding agent for power for LED lighting, that is, Switching Mode Power Supply (SMPS).

The key to LED lighting technology is how to deal with strong heat generation, which is the biggest technical issue. It must be molded into SMPS to quickly release strong heat, and improve performance such as heat dissipation, waterproofing, dust proofing, component protection, and fire prevention. It is thus essential to develop the molding agent.

Cheaper than silicone, and urethane
KM-660, a molding agent developed by Ilsin Cloud, has a high softening point that withstands high heat and heat dissipation, while maintaining a low viscosity to facilitate permeability. It protects electronic parts with waterproofing, dust-proofing and moisture-proofing, and it is a flame-retardant material, so it does not burn.

It is 40% cheaper than silicone and 26% cheaper than urethane. In addition, the pot life after molding can be shortened, so line work is possible; and when EMI standards are realized, it has an excellent ability of 20-30% compared to silicone. Safety has been proven as a RoHS product. In addition, as it is a single-component type, no harmful substances are generated during reaction, and since it has low viscosity compared to silicone and urethane, there is no need for a drip-preventing design, thus lowering the case manufacturing cost.

It is the core technology of KM-660 that improves heat dissipation and facilitates permeability by maintaining low viscosity, and it has received patents in Korea, Mexico, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and China. It is a very safe and economical new material that has economical cost, safety, and technology, can be reused as an eco-friendly material, and can be stored at room temperature for more than five years.

With more than 30 years of experienced molding knowhow in the industry, technical support tailored to SMPS design is possible. When LG Innotek, a subsidiary of LG Electronics, produced SMPS, it worked with the company to design and export a specialized SMPS to apply to its products.
