[INQ. NO. 2305E27] In an eff ort to enhance the quality of life for disabled individuals and other vulnerable persons, a team of researchers developed a range of smart exercise devices under the project “Intelligent Rehabilitation Sports Intermediary Research and Development.” The project is a collaborative eff ort among various ministries, including the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Korea Forest Service.

The researchers focused on designing a series of smart exercise devices, customized exercise programs, and services based on ICT to promote the health and well-being of disabled individuals in local communities. These devices are designed for practical use in everyday life, targeting diff erent parts of the body, such as the upper and lower limbs and the torso.
By utilizing bio-measurement technology, data collection, and tracking management, the project aims to enhance the basic physical fi tness of disabled individuals. In addition, the researchers developed tailored rehabilitation sports programs and services for various types of disabilities and established a community-based service delivery system.

The collaboration between the National Rehabilitation Center and its Rehabilitation Research Institute has led to the advancement of this innovative project, ensuring a comprehensive and evidence-based approach to rehabilitation research. The project adheres to three main research principles: consumer participation, interdisciplinary research, and industry-academia collaboration.
