LG Elec. Grabs 3rd Highest Market Share in N. America

201303e_3

South Korea’s electronics giant LG Electronics jumped to third spot in the ranking of North American market share, the first-time ever since its entry into the smartphone business.

LG Electronics came in third in terms of smarphone market share in North America with a 7.1 percent market share followed by Apple(37.6 percent) and Samsung
Electronics(26.6 percent), according to a recent report of US-based market researching firm Strategy Analytics(SA).

LG saw its ranking up by one notch every year from seventh in 2009, sixth in 2010 and fifth in 2011 and overtook both HTC and Blackberry last year.

The result came from the recent rollout of high-end LTE(long-term evolution) smartphones and 3G(third generation) smartphone L-series including the Optimus G and Optimus View(named Intuition in the US) in the North American market. Its improved brand awareness through the launch of VoLTE(Voice over LTE)-capable smartphone Connect 4G and 4G handsets on Metro PCS, all of which was the first-ever achievement in the world, also led to the rise in the Korean-based company’s ranking.

Digital Breathalyzers

201303e_2 [INQ. NO. 1304E22] DA Tech developed and commercialized Korea’s first digital fuel cell type portable breathalyzers, which are gaining steady recognition in
more than 40 countries.

Currently, six kinds of its breathalyzers are being sold. Among them, the latest breathalyzer DA9000 is currently frequently selected in export markets due to its eminent measuring capacity of up to the second decimal point.

DA9000 even has a function that prints the data measured wirelessly and it enables data transmission with PCs by using USBs. The user interface (UI) supports multiple languages including English, Japanese, etc. In addition, the function of saving up certain data in a real time is also available.

In 2009, DA Tech received the most prestigious French NF certification in the breathalyzer market and consequently it gained solid technological recognition both
at home and in the global market.

“In Korea, breathalyzers were until now mostly preferred for policemen’s official duties of preventing drunk driving but now the demand for personal use is
increasing due to the activation of proxy-drive here.

Meanwhile, in foreign markets, individuals are increasingly seeking them to check and confirm the personally measured data,” Park Kwang-hee, the president of the company said.

Since it started business in 2002, DA Tech has been at the forefront of digital breathalyzers (alcohol testers) both for personal and professional use. With its accumulated experience, expertise and cuttingedge technology, DATech is committed to becoming a global leader in the breathalyzer business.

201303e_1The company’s first priority in management was always ensuring the safety of the users of its products and related solutions. For more than a decade, DA Tech has
been a leading manufacturer of quality products. DATech’s various models of digital breathalyzers are marketed under the brand name of “ALCOSCENT”.

Another versatile digital breathalyzer DA-7100 is also popular both for personal & professional use as analcohol tester with extremely high reliability. It can be used in hospitals, schools and many other sectors. It also features a self-diagnostic function for the sensor that lets the user know the right timing for recalibration.

After receiving approval from the Food and Drug Administration in the United States, the breathalyzer specialist has started speeding up its efforts to expand its
global presence – currently it exports breathalyzers to 25 nations including North America, Europe, Japan, etc. Such apparently remarkable movements are boosted by the robust growth in Korea.

Recently the company recorded US$4mil.worth of exports to the United States, which means the company succeeded in solidifying its position in the leading global market.

The World’s First developer of MOCVD IGZO TFT process and equipment ; JUSUNG Engineering

사진As a leader in semiconductor, display and solar cell manufacturing technologies in the global market, JUSUNG Engineering is asserting its ever-higher global presence. Itspioneering deposition technology enables flat panel display makers to dramatically enhance high-definition resolution in next-generation displays.

The new product utilizes a metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) technology to apply the critical transparent semiconductor oxide material for use on flat panels. This new material, IGZO – Indium, Gallium, Zinc, Oxygen, replaces the traditional amorphous silicon based active layer. IGZO has an electron mobility 40 times greater than traditional materials such that a display’s reaction speed can be more swiftly controlled. In doing so, panel makers will be able to offer screen resolutions higher than the current Full High Definition. JUSUNG is the only company in the World that offers this MOCVD IGZO capability for 8th-Generation-sized panels.

MOCVD offers significant benefits over conventional deposition methods. Specifically, it allows panel makers to fine tune the composition of the IGZO material to customize it for their application. This is a significant step in the application of the new material because previous conventional deposition methods such as sputtering limit the composition to fixed ratios. By improving upon these shortcomings, JUSUNG expects this new MOCVD technology to gain market acceptance as panel makers seek to expand their product offerings.

JUSUNG’s new MOCVD IGZO is compatible with next-generation LCD TVs, OLED TVs, and mobile displays. As such, the company will focus on enhancing this technology to secure a greater share of the flat panel deposition market.

A JUSUNG Engineering representative explained, “The display companies of the world have set out to transform high-speed display technology through utilizing IGZO materials.” He added, “By being the first to market with this enabling technology, JUSUNG Engineering will also accelerate its increasing market influence as a leading global capital equipment manufacturer.”

Since itsestablishment in 1995, JUSUNG Engineering has been a leading provider of manufacturing technologies for the global marketplace. Based in Korea with a network of worldwide offices, it offers innovative and differentiated technologies for the semiconductor, flat panel display, and solar markets. It has also entered the lighting market through leveraging its core technologies and applying them for LED and OLED lighting. JUSUNG’s innovations are currently employed in many of the world’s leading technology manufacturing companies. As such, JUSUNG is securing its position as an industry leader for enabling, next-generation technologies.
