Supporting smart monitoring

[INQ. NO. 1710E09] ChoisTechnology has recently launched the smart monitoring thermometer – Thermosher. The existing thermometers commonly adopted a principle that measures continuously through the head or forehead. However, the measurer and the subject had to wake up at night, which may cause inconvenience.
In order to alleviate this inconvenience, ChoisTechnology created the Thermosher that attaches a thermometer to the body and confirms body temperature information on a smartphone in real time. According to the medical device approval standard, the contact thermometer should pass ±0.1°C in terms of the temperature measurement error. Considering that the approval standard of non-contact thermometer, which is ±0.2°C, its product is performed more precisely than the non-contact thermometer. In addition, the non-contact thermometers may have different positions during the measured time, but one of the advantages is that the contact thermometer can constantly monitor temperature at the same location.
Currently, the contact and monitoring smart thermometers such as Thermosher are becoming increasingly popular on the global market. Temptraq is a representative example in the United States, and there are similar products available in the Chinese and European markets. Temptraq only operated once for 24 hours. On the other hand, Thermosher can be used semi-permanently by using the battery. And it designed to be attached to sensitive skin safely by using a small, slim silicon patch.
As mentioned earlier, the contact and monitoring smart thermometers are still unfamiliar among the general public, and are not yet exposed to the market. Thus, it is promoting its products via SNS, and online child-rearing communities. In addition, it launched an online store and participated in a maternity classroom. As a result, the sales trend in the domestic market has shown a steady increase.
In the case of overseas markets, it is not easy to export the medical devices to different countries due to the approval requirements for medical devices. ChoisTechnology received inquiries from various countries including Europe, Southeast Asia, and the United States, but the export process is unlikely until the authentication problem is solved. So, the maker is currently preparing for the CE medical and will be certified by the end of September this year.
The most notable market for medical devices is China. Due to the one-child policy that was introduced in China, the middle-class families pay attention to investment in their children. The sales trend of health and beauty related products is also growing steadily in China. However, since the standard of medical devices approval varies among different countries, they must obtain certification in order to export their products. Therefore, in order to enter China’s market, the maker must obtain the CFDA certification and that could possibly be a long time away.

Steady growth of the world’s market size for wearable devices

Wearable devices are smart devices that are attached to the body in order to input, output and process information, such as smart watches, smart glasses and smart bands. It is a fusion technology industry that combines materials and parts such as semiconductors, sensors and displays with IoT, virtual/augmented reality and artificial intelligence.

Currently, the wearable device market is formed around accessories like smart watches, but in the future, experts predict that the devices will be attached to the body or implanted along with growth of VR/AR and health medical devices.

The Fusion device industry such as wearable devices is an industry that requires cooperation among departments more so than in any other field. So far, the Ministry of Science Technology Information and Communication and the Ministry of Industry have made efforts through cooperation for the development of the wearable devices industry. They have come up with ‘Future Growth Power – Industry Engine Comprehensive Implementation Plan’, ‘Manufacturing Industry Innovation 3.0 Strategy Implementation Policy’, ‘K-ICT Smart Device Promotion Measures’.

From the last year, they are working together for ‘Wearable Smart Device Core Parts and Element Technology Development Project’.

In relation to this, the Ministry of Science Technology Information and Communication and the Ministry of Industry Commerce and Resources will host ‘Wearable Device Technology Development Workshop’ at Yangjae L Tower on the 13th to examine and explain the current status of research and development in the wearable device industry and to strengthen cooperation between the two ministries.

At the workshop, recent wearable device trends and market forecasts will be shared. Technology development projects under the two ministries are divided into three sections, health medical, biometric data, and terminal, so that experts from these related fields may get together for in-depth discussions for future technology development cooperation measures.

During the discussions by sections, a total of five projects including ‘Development of Multiple Wearable Software Fusion Module and Application Platform to Support Integrated Management of Body Activities’ from the Ministry of Science, Technology, Information and Communication and a total of twelve projects including ‘Development of Core Technologies for Open Type Wearable Development Kit Applicable to Various Services’ from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce will be shared among staffs for technology development status to discuss future commercialization and technology cooperation.

These two ministries have declared their common interest for the need to strengthen cooperation for the vitalization of wearable device industry through these workshops.

A government official declared that, “Even in the future, the two ministries plan to make efforts together not only for technology development, but also for personnel training and corporate support, to commonly utilize development results and promote commercialization continuously.”

Korean trade chief confident of $1tn trade this year

https://korean-electronics.com//inquirySouth Korea’s gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter ended June 30 grew 0.6 percent against the previous three-month period, losing steam from the surprising pickup of 1.1 percent in the first quarter as overall manufacturing activity stayed subdued except for semiconductors and petrochemicals.

According to second-quarter preliminary data recently released by the Bank of Korea, the country’s GDP totaled 386.6 trillion won ($344.3 billion) in the April-June period. The figure was unchanged from the headline number released in late July.
Against a year-ago period, the GDP grew 2.7 percent in the second quarter, slowing from 2.9 percent gain in the first quarter.
The string of data released recently – the biggest jump in inflation in more than five years, still-robust exports and slowed growth – underscored instability in the recovery pace.

Overseas shipment in the second quarter contracted 2.9 percent on quarter, reversing from 2.1 percent gain in the previous quarter as automobile shipment to China sharply dropped due to Beijing’s retaliation against Seoul’s installation of a powerful U.S antimissile battery. The figure was revised up slightly from 3.0 percent fall in July.

Imports also shrank by 1.0 percent due to reduced crude oil import. Manufacturing output fell 0.3 percent on quarter. The domestic demand showed improvement amid expectations for the new government’s promise to increase income and hiring.

Private consumption rose 1.0 percent on quarter in the biggest gain in six quarters. Facilities investment surged 5.2 percent on quarter and 17.3 percent on year due largely to expansion in chipmaking facility.

Construction investment also edged up 0.3 percent, compared with 6.8 percent gain in the first quarter.

Gross corporate investment rate was 31.5 percent, up from 30.5 percent in the first quarter and highest since the second quarter of 2012.

 

 

By sector, agriculture and fisheries output fell 1.1 percent, manufacturing 0.3 percent, and construction 1.3 percent. Service output accelerated by 0.8 percent, reflecting a slight recovery in consumer demand.

Gross national income in the second quarter after seasonal adjustment shrank 0.6 percent from the previous quarter to 401.6 trillion won due to a sharp rise in dividend payment made by local firms to offshore investors. The final figure was revised down from 403.5 trillion won in July.

The share of gross saving against GDP slightly declined to 35.7 percent from 36.9 percent in the first quarter as private expenditure grew 2.3 percent, faster than an increase of 0.4 percent in disposable income.
