Subsequent development includes different carbon solutions including activating carbons, controlling the shape, composite and metal impregnated activation.

VINATech has improved the fuel cell’s lifecycle by using crystalline carbon as catalyst support.

Starcap supercapacitors manufactured in various shapes and capacities have different application scopes depending on their shapes and capacities. STARCAP supercapacitors have the following merits:

The first priority is high capacity and high power. Compared with general capacitors such as Al electrolytic capacitors and tantalum capacitors, supercap supercapacitors have a higher capacity. They have higher output than batteries and their second advantage is their safety. Their +/- electrodes are symmetrical and unlike secondary batteries, so they have no explosion risk. Third, it is possible to charge/discharge them fast by storing electric energy through the surface adsorption method. Fourth, they can be semi-permanently used as they can be charged and discharged hundreds of thousands of times.
Lastly, unlike raw materials for secondary batteries (especially Li) that have limited supply and can do the environment harm, their raw material is activated carbon that is easy to supply and an eco-friendly carbon material.

Korchip has all core EDLC technologies relating from electrodes and electrolytes to various packages. It has experienced steady growth in recent years based upon these strong technical backgrounds. Strong new demands for EDLCs are rising from various applications including automotive, renewable energy, and etc.

Korchip produces various types of EDLCs with its registered brand STARCAP® including coin type and radial type. The STARCAP® EDLC is widely ranging from 0.022F to 1,500F with 2.3V~5.5V of rated voltages.

EDLC is relatively new energy storage device. It has been used as back-up power source for real time clocks (RTCs) or memory on electronic circuits. EDLCs can give big power in short time repeatedly. Compared to batteries, it is environmentally safe and has longer life.

With these advantages, EDLCs are being selected as assistant energy storage device in pitch systems of wind turbines, electric vehicles, cold cranking power source for trucks or normal-sized cars, car DVRs and in many other new applications.
